Literally, a hidden gem in Scarborough — Aoyama, a tiny and cozy Japanese restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food in a local strip plaza.
Aside from their menu, they also have cute hand-drawn drawings just adjacent from the sushi bar that features their appetizer menu and seasonal specials. I can never resist ordering something from a daily special menu.
For the night, we ordered the Aoyama Omakase to share along with some daily specials…
Aji $12 – it was really fresh. Probably one of the best aji I’ve had. $12 was a steal for the entire fish!
spicy tuna/salmon roll ($1.50/each) – both salmon and tuna were delicious and the seaweed was still very crispy and secured.
For the AOYAMA OMAKASE, it consisted of the following…
king crab salad
Hirame Usuzukuri – thinly sliced fluke with citrus vinegar. It was delicious and refreshing! Very appetizing to start the course.
Course Special Seafood Soup – the soup was full of seafood taste. Great way to end the course. I liked how it was offered in a teapot; it kept the soup warm.
Greentea icecream to end the day. I added a few dots on the icecream to make a cute face.
Verdict: Authentic good japanese place in Scarborough. I would recommend the side dishes on the daily special menu instead of the omakase menu. Sushis and sashimis were really fresh. Will come back again when I’m around the area.
