Bf and I decide to have a date uptown instead of downtown where we are usually at. He has been telling me about il Postino for a few times and claimed that their crispy calamari was the best!
Il Postino is a cozy Italian restaurant situation on Main St Unionville. The waitress was really helpful and friendly in terms of providing great recommendations throughout the night.
I started off with the Il Postino cocktail with rum, melon liqueur, blue curacao & orange juice that was recommended by the waitress when I told her I wanted something light and fruity. Yummy!
Of course, we ordered the calamari but they didn’t offer the crispy ones anymore. It was grilled instead with lemon oil and arugula on the side.
Grilled Calamari – lemon oil, arugula($15)
It was still good though. This was probably the highlight of the meal. It was well-cooked; not too sticky or hard to chew. The spices and lemon oil complimented the calamari just perfectly.
For mains, we had the Osso Bucco wth Yukon gold mashed potatoes. Osso Bucco in Italian is “bone with a hole”, referencing to the marrow hole at the centre of the cross-cut veal shank. This dish is also braised with vegetables, wine and broth.
The Seafood Linguini ($24) was alright. Nothing in particularly special about it. Pasta was relatively fresh and great proportion with the seafood.
Not too sure if we will be back again and if we are, it’s the calamari that we’ll be back for.
Happy Holidays all!
