Can’t leave Chicago without their signature deep dish pizza!
I ended up visiting the one at Chicago – Gold Coast, 1120 North State Street (at State & Rush) for lunch. They had high ceilings, booths, high bar chairs with tall tables. All mainly with wooden décor. Their menu can be found here.
For a group of 7, we started off with the Trio of Dips and Pizza Chips.
Three housemade dips – roasted garlic, artichoke and giardiniera-topped hummus served with our crispy pizza dough chips. ($8.95)
For the deep dish pizzas, we ordered three 9” smalls which were supposed to serve 2 people per pizza but clearly with 4 guys + 3 girls, we still couldn’t finish it! 1 slice of deep dish is almost equivalent to 3 slices of thin pizzas!
- Sausage Deep Dish
- The Malnati Chicago Classic™ – Made with Lou’s lean sausage, some extra cheese and vine-ripened tomato sauce on Buttercrust.™ It’s authentic Chicago!
- The “Lou” – A pizza so good we gave it his name! Spinach mix, mushrooms and sliced roma tomatoes covered with three cheeses.
I should have taken a picture to demonstrate the depth of these pizzas! Nonetheless, they were good and worth a try when you’re in the Windy City, Chicago!
After walking back to hotel at night, we noticed another deep dish pizza restaurant that had line ups!! It was called Giordano’s (@GiordanosPizza), instead of lining up, we called for delivery to our hotel instead. Giordano’s was a lot better than Lou Malnatis! Would recommend Giordano’s over Lou Malnatis! Everything just tasted a lot better. Look at the depths of these Chicago deep dish pizza! I was pizza-ed out for the next month.
